Preston and Brenda Thompson, Thompson's Carpet Shoppe

On a shoestring way back in 1970, Preston and Brenda Thompson opened The Carpet Shoppe in Dickson, Tennessee. Sometimes ignorance IS bliss – had these inexperienced 20 something’s known anything about the financial (and emotional) ups and downs of owning a business, Dickson might never have become home to what has become one of the most successful ‘Mom and Pop’ flooring business in the Country.

Forty-one years after opening that eight hundred square foot rented shop front, the Carpet Shoppe has grown into a recognized center of excellence in the flooring industry and has set the standard for customer service and expert installation in the Middle Tennessee area…and don’t forget their Three Year Labor Warranty (you won’t find that at the Big Boxes)!

Throughout their years in business the Thompsons stayed heavily involved in their children’s lives coaching little league baseball, softball and junior pro football. Both Brenda and Preston were Scout Leaders, school volunteers and leading members of the local PTA. They have also led seminars on home decorating, flooring installation and business ownership to local High School students, and they continue to be committed and active members of their church. Their strong dedication to the community has enriched their lives and helped to create a sound and loyal customer base.

The Carpet Shoppe has a large selection of carpets by Mohawk, Shaw, Guilstan, Southwind, Milliken and vinyl by Tarkett, Congoleum and Mannington.  They are the only Mohawk Color Center in Middle Tennessee, and Porter Paint is the ONLY paint brand you will find at the Carpet Shoppe – mixed and matched personally for you while you wait. Experienced decorators are on hand to offer advise on in- home decorating, and as always - estimates are always Free! (Not a word you hear a lot these days)

Next year the Thompsons will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  Through nothing less than true grit, hard work and Southern determination, their marriage and their business lives on.

Preston’s motto just might hold the key to their success. He always says, ‘The harder we work the luckier we get!’

Inspired by the Pledge Campaign, Preston is organizing a free, after-hours training program for high school students interested in learning the skills related to installing and maintaining flooring materials, such as carpet and vinyl installation.  He is visiting local high schools to build relationships with school officials and talk with students who might be interested in participating in the training.  If you are interested, please call him at the phone number below.
